Chapter Philanthropy

Theta Upsilon takes great pride in our National Philanthropies; the Sigma Kappa Foundation, Inherit the Earth, Gerontology, Maine Seacoast Mission, and the Alzheimer’s Association. We partake in several initiatives that help us remain actively involved to support these philanthropies and consistently strive to leave a positive impact on our community.

Our chapters hosts a variety of Philanthropy events each year that support each of Sigma Kappa’s five philanthropies. Recently, we have held Sigma Sliders, Sigma Stacks, Picture A Cure, Fidget Blanket making, and several more. Along with the events we host, we raise money and participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s every year. In 2017, Theta Upsilon was the top fundraiser for the Hancock County Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Then in 2018, our chapter raised over $4,000.00 for the West Central Ohio Walk to End Alzheimer's.

At Theta Upsilon, it is very important to us to participate in all five philanthropies throughout the year. For Inherit the Earth, we hold Adopt-A-Blocks where we clean up trash around the Bowling Green campus and the community.  We also participate in BGSU’s Friday Night Lights where we turn off lights around campus on Fridays to conserve energy. To support our Gerontology and Alzheimer’s philanthropies, we volunteer frequently at the local nursing homes. Lastly, in 2018 we sent boxes of supplies and hand knitted hats to help the residents of Maine living off the island for the Maine Seacoast Mission. Service is essential and an important value we strive to live by as we participate in many campus and community service events each year.
